Meet Dr. Christos D. Argyropoulos
Biography
Dr. Argyropoulos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), where he also contributes as a Research Scholar at the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Refining & Advanced Chemicals (IRC-CRAC) and a Guest Research Scholar at the Center of Integrative Petroleum Research (CIPR). Since 2025, he has been running his independent Computational Fluid Dynamics and Health Safety Environment - Simulation Research Group (CFD & HSE – SRG) in the Department of Chemical Engineering at KFUPM. His research is driven by a strong commitment to addressing complex challenges at the intersection of engineering, health, environment and safety.
His academic journey began with an Integrated Master’s (MEng.) in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2006, followed by two MSc degrees in "Computational Mechanics" and "Mathematical Modelling in Modern Technologies and Financial Engineering" in 2008 and 2010, respectively. He then earned his DIC and Ph.D. in Computational Fluid Dynamics from Imperial College London in 2015.
Dr. Argyropoulos' professional academic experience includes postdoctoral positions at Texas A&M University and the Mary Kay O'Connor Process Safety Center, Qatar (2015-2018), where he focused on process safety and air pollution. In 2018, he also held a prestigious industrial research fellowship at NCSR Demokritos and served as a Senior Research Fellow (2020-2021) and Adjunct Assistant Professor at European University Cyprus (2022-2024), focusing on health risk assessment and public health.
His research interests encompass computational fluid dynamics (CFD), process safety, chemical and process engineering, occupational health and safety (OHS), risk assessment, public health, environmental health and exposure, and indoor air quality (IAQ). He has extensive experience managing local and European research programs.
Dr. Argyropoulos is a chartered Chemical Engineer of Technical Chamber of Greece and Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK), starting in 2008 and 2023, respectively. He is a Fellow of Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) and an Associate Member of IChemE. He is also a member of International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ) and member of Cyprus Epidemiology and Public Health Association (CyEPHA). He actively contributes to the scientific community as an Associate Editor for JMIR Public Health and Surveillance and the Journal of Medical Internet Research, and as a topical advisory panel member for the “Pollutants”, “Processes” and “Atmosphere” MDPI journals. He also serves as a member of the Socio-Economic Analysis Committee (SEAC) at the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
