Group Leader
Dr. Christos Argyropoulos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). His research aligns with the mission of his CFD and HSE Simulation Research Group, focusing on critical and complex issues at the intersection of engineering, safety, environment and health. His work involves developing processes and models to investigate complex phenomena in the fields of:
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD):Utilizing computational tools for simulating fluid flow and transport phenomena in chemical and environmental engineering (e.g. pollutants’ dispersion in building and industrial environments, chemical reactor engineering, bubble droplet formation-flows, multiphase flows, flows in porous media, and airborne transmission of biological agents).
- Industrial process safety:Ensuring the safe operation of industrial processes. Evaluating and managing risks associated with hazardous materials and processes using qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods.
- Occupational Health and Safety (OHS):Protecting the health and safety of workers in different industrial sectors (e.g. oil & gas, energy, chemicals, cement, manufacturing).
- Public Health:Promoting public health through the study of environmental factors (e.g. air pollution, chemical exposure, climate change, etc.), environmental health and exposure, emergency preparedness, public health communication and educational materials.
- Air Pollution and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ):Investigating the sources, transport, and impact of air pollutants. Improving IAQ to enhance human health and well-being using monitoring devices and numerical models.
