Dr. Symeon Savvopoulos

Biography

Position:Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Mathematics, Khalifa University of Science and Technology, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Dr. Symeon Savvopoulos is an accomplished mathematical modeler, process engineer, and machine learning integrator for complex systems. His Ph.D. research at Imperial College London focused on personalized mathematical models for leukemia progression and treatment. His expertise in high-fidelity modeling, systems biology, and multiscale biomedical data analysis supports collaborative research on hematopoiesis, myeloid cell dynamics, infectious diseases, and kidney transplant risk assessment. Dr. Savvopoulos has co-authored several peer-reviewed biomedical modeling and computational medicine articles developing disease modeling and therapeutic decision-making mechanisms.

Additionally, Dr. Savvopoulos has advanced chemical engineering research in crystallization, freeze desalination, and combustion systems. He used experimental data and computational fluid dynamics simulations to model, scale up, and control sonicated continuous crystallizers at KU Leuven. His work at Khalifa University combines heat and mass transfer analysis with phase-change dynamics under natural convection in desalination systems, as well as high-fidelity modeling of combustion systems. Dr. Savvopoulos advances process engineering and applied mathematics interdisciplinary projects through teaching and research supervision.
